Discipline Priest Gear and BIS in Shadowlands
Gear is one of the most important elements in WoW to strengthen your Discipline Priest, providing massive amounts of stats as well as armor, procs, and set bonuses.
In this guide, we will explain how to obtain the best gear for your Discipline Priest in Shadowlands and how to check if a piece is BiS, an upgrade or just bad. This guide will help you select the best pieces of gear from Dungeons and Raids in Shadowlands, whether they be weapons, trinkets, or armor.
Recommended Gear for Discipline Priests in Shadowlands
What is the BIS Discipline Priest gear?
With many different sources of gearing and loot scarcity in Shadowlands, targeting your absolute Best in Slot gear isn't entirely realistic; instead, we've created a Best in Slot list from the ideal Discipline Priest raid drops found in Shadowlands, from Mythic Dungeons, to help you decide what to prioritize.
These lists should give you several gearing paths in Season 3 including Sanctum of Domination, Mythic+, and Tazavesh, the Veiled Market. Give the following guide a read to learn about all gearing options in Shadowlands Season 3.
Sepulcher of the First Ones Recommended Gear for Discipline Priest
Discipline Priest focuses on maximizing item level in most gear slots with a preference towards Haste / Mastery. However, do not sacrifice primary stats for haste. For dungeon-only healing, you'll typically want to prioritize a more haste/crit/vers gearing setup.
This is a guideline of gear to pursue, for a more close-up look be sure to check out Questionably Epic's Live Gear Tool!

Tier Set Bonus for Discipline Priest
Eternity's End see the return of Tier Sets to WoW. This time around, tier sets will be available from all forms of content, Raiding, Mythic+, and PvP, pieces can even come from the Great Vault. While any combination of four of the five pieces can be used, Discipline Priests prefer to equip Helm, Shoulders, Chest, and Legs, assuming the same item level. Rule of thumb is to use the highest ilvl pieces available to you.
- 2-Set - From Dusk - Casting Power Word: Shield or Shadow Mend has a 15% chance to make your next cast of Shadow Mend have no cost or cast time.
- 4-Set - Til Dawn - Power of the Dark Side increases the effectiveness of Penance by an additional 45% and is triggered when Power Word: Radiance is cast.
This set helps enable Venthyr double legendary at end-game providing a strong and reliable buff to Penance damage every time the Discipline Priest is ramping.
The set is composed of five pieces of gear:
- Amice of the Empyrean(Helm - Anduin Wrynn
- Capelet of the Empyrean(Shoulders - Lords of Dread)
- Habit of the Empyrean(Chest - Rygelon)
- Caress of the Empyrean(Gloves - Lihuvim)
- Leggings of the Empyrean(Legs - Halondrus)
To unlock the tier set bonus, Discipline Priests prefer equipping tier pieces on Gloves, Shoulder, Chest, and Legs. However, you can use any 4 combination of the five pieces, aiming to achieve the highest overall item level.
Patch 9.2 allows players to use two legendary pieces at the same time, once they progress further enough in the campaign. This opens new ways for players to interact with the Covenant and Legendary system.

Mythic+ Recommended Gear for Discipline Priest
Like the Sanctum of Domination gear list above, this gear setup favors Haste/Mastery as it has synergy with our Ramp/Shell playstyle. For dungeon-only healing, you'll typically want to prioritize a more Haste/Vers/Crit based gearing setup.
Best Discipline Priest Trinkets in Shadowlands
As healers, we usually have the option for mana regeneration trinkets or throughput trinkets depending on the situation. However, current Shadowlands trinket options that provide additional mana are practically nonexistent. As such, we'll primarily focus on healing throughput trinkets.
Due to gear being able to scale in a variety of content (Mythic+ and Raid), I'll typically list out the overall ranking of trinkets in order assuming equal iLvl. Significant item level differences will influence your selection.
Throughput Trinkets
In regard to throughput trinkets, Discipline tends to dislike random proc trinkets as we can't always utilize the extra throughput at that particular moment in the fight. As such, on-use effects and stat sticks are highly favored. You will look for one passive/stat stick trinket and one on-use.
Grade | Trinket | Drop Location | Notes |
S | Instructor's Divine Bell | New versions in S3 are nerfed but old versions are still very powerful

Best Items to Upgrade with Valor Points for Discipline Priest in Shadowlands
When upgrading Mythic+ items to 220 with Valor, you'll prioritize items that give you the most value, which tends to be weapons and trinkets. I've noted the strongest selections for these gear slots below.
You'll then want to prioritize gear slots with higher stat budgets like helms, chests, and legs, especially if these gear slots are some of your lowest item level gear pieces. Next will be shoulders, gloves, belt, and boots. Finally, fill the remaining gear pieces by lowest item level slots. Please see the Mythic+ Gear List for suggestion on which specific pieces of gear to upgrade.
Slot | Item | Source | Notes |
Weapon | Nathrian Ferula | Halls of Atonement | Generally our best itemized weapon from Mythic+. |
Trinkets | Soulletting Ruby | Theater of Pain | Strong trinket for Mythic+ and should be a priority to upgrade if you'll also use it in raid with Boon. |
Empyreal Ordnance | Spires of Ascension | Strong trinket for raiding and casting during a Boon of the Ascended ramp.
Unbound Changeling | Mists of Tirna Scithe | The other strong trinket from Mythic+ with a variable secondary stat buff. |
Items to Prioritize in the Great Vault for Discipline Priest in Shadowlands
When selecting your weekly reward from the Great Vault, you'll prefer higher item level pieces when possible. Prioritize weapons early, since they give the most throughput for a single item upgrade. High priority trinkets will be your next best option, followed by items with a higher stat budget (typically Helms, Chests, and Legs followed by Shoulders, Gloves, Belt, and Boots).
Continue to favor high stat budget items over low stat ones. If there's a particular item in your gear set with a low item level then you can also select that over making minor item level upgrades to other pieces. As a bit of a cheat sheet:
