Holy Priest Castle Nathria Covenant Choice

Holy in Shadowlands is often focused on utilizing many short cooldowns to reduce the cooldowns of their Holy Word: Serenity and Holy Word: Sanctify, and provides two strong raid cooldowns in Divine Hymn and Holy Word: Salvation. Many of the Covenants offer some side-damage resources that don't mean as much to Holy Priest, given that there is no damage/healing interaction like Discipline has.

With 9.0.5 Night Fae and Necrolord are strong competitors for top covenant options in a raid.

The Fae Guardians ability operates with 2 Fairies that can be cast on allies or yourself and another that automatically jumps to enemies to return mana to you. This covenant has received some strong buffs in 9.0.5 to double the damage reduction benefit of the Guardian Fairy, improve the quality of life of the Wrathful Fairy and to tease us with buffs to the benevolent Fairy that they then reverted, leaving it unchanged. The damage reduction given is valuable for further tank support, generally a weak spot for Holy Priest, the cooldown reduction is more valuable now that Divine Hymn provides a greater healing bonus to the raid after a full channel and the mana return of the Wrathful Fairies is increased through the automatic jump to an enemy, saving you a global to apply it.

However, the healing the abilities do, how they are produced, and the soulbinds that support them are very significant to Holy and in that regard Necrolord is a strong option. The Unholy Nova ability produces solid healing on a low cooldown, with heavy control over where the ability will land to ensure its maximum potential. With soulbinds, the Emeni bind has a sweet and easy to acquire bonus with Lead by Example offering up to 13% bonus intellect on demand. This is excellent to utilize before one of your raid cooldowns in Divine Hymn or Holy Word: Salvation but could also simply be used before casting Circle of Healing to get the Prayer Circle buff allowing for some rapid and heavy hitting Prayer of Healing.

Holy Priest Castle Nathria Legendaries

Harmonious Apparatus

Simple and easy to work with. So long as you're properly using Circle of Healing and Prayer of Mending, you'll receive some excellent cooldown reduction over the course of raids or dungeons. Faster cooldown reduction on your Holy Word: Serenity and Holy Word: Sanctify just means your healing becomes more efficient and you'll have greater mana efficiency early on in the expansion. This is key now that we have lost Essences and trinkets that regen tons of mana.

Flash Concentration

Strong synergy between this legendary, Trail of Light, and Resonant Words. Requires consistent uptime of the buff in order to make the most of it but can produce extremely efficient single-target support working well on fights like the Sun King's Salvation where the encounter revolves around healing the NPC for as much as possible. On more movement-intensive encounters like Sire Denathrius this can be challenging to maintain the buff when also juggling your multiple other low-cooldown abilities while avoiding mechanics.

Castle Nathria Boss Tips

Holy Priest Top Builds for Shriekwing

Holy Priest Tips

  • Wave of Blood is cast about every 30 seconds. Cycle cooldowns for each of these. After 4 casts the intermission begins.
  • Coordinate with healers early on when to use Divine Hymn/Holy Word: Salvation.
  • This fight is fairly short so don't expect a 2nd Holy Word: Salvation cast.
  • Divine Hymn can hit allies even if they are line of sight so feel free to channel hymn for the shriek even if melee will immediately run LoS to get back to the boss after.
  • Staying close to the pillars will allow you to more easily dodge the bosses sonic ring casts.

Holy Priest Tips

  • The boss will Spreadshot the raid about every 10-15 seconds, stay spread to reduce overall damage.
  • Sinseeker timer is around 45 seconds but spell queuing can delay it.
  • One boar casts Rip Soul every 30 seconds until it is killed spawning copies of players that must be healed to full. Holy Word: Sanctify will hit these since they're allies that effectively start at 1% HP but you can also use mouseover macros or add them to your vuhdo frames by creating a panel for your focus target and using a mouseover macro to set a new focus.
  • The last boar needs to be "walked" to remove stacks unleashing Shattering Stone. While moving it deals heavy damage to the entire raid. Talk to your team about when it is most suitable to walk it and stagger cooldowns accordingly.

Holy Priest Tips

  • High raid damage will come from the Vanquisher's Concussive Smash. The first smash came out around 45 seconds and has around a 30 second cooldown. As long as that vanquisher is up it will continue pounding the raid.
  • Assassin's deal heavy DoT damage from Crimson Flurry. Make bleeding allies a priority throughout this fight.
  • All healers will want to be blasting healing in Kael when you apply Guardian Spirit to him, make sure to use the Lasting Spirit conduit along with the Guardian Angel talent . On Mythic you'll want to save Holy Word: Serenity and Guardian Spirit for when his shield is applied to help the team heal through that mechanic to avoid a wipe.
  • On Mythic you will want to slam Guardian Spirit down on the pull and Power Infusion another healer like Paladin or Monk on the pull to assist their throughput. Everyone in the raid should be spamming Kael during Guardian Spirit uptime. Assuming you push fast enough, Cloak of Flames will come out after your first Shadow of Kael phase. If you have two HPriests, one can Guardian Spirit immediately when the first Shade phase ends, but if you're the only Priest then you'll hold your Guardian Spirit for the first and third Cloak of Flames. Save up Holy Word: Serenity and have Apotheosis ready to blast even more healing into that window. The second cloak will be handled by essence fonts. You'll need to keep them alive for about 30 seconds, just make sure one healer is assigned to keep those alive as they will make healing the second cloak extremely easy.

Holy Priest Tips

  • Hyperlight Spark is the highest damage in the fight. It deals light damage but it jumps to the entire raid and is cast about every 30 seconds so that alone usually won't kill players.
  • Generally, it will align with Glyph of Destruction which also has a similar ~30 second cooldown. Make sure to add this cooldown in your boss mods. With Big Wigs it is labeled a tank mechanic and will not show up unless you specifically add it.
  • Around every minute and a half, the boss will activate a new device dealing increasing damage to the raid until he is pushed to the next phase. Look to time cooldowns around the combination of these various abilities for best results.
  • This fight is less about planning cooldowns for one damaging event but looking for where many of them all align together. Also and especially on Mythic, healing the Withering Touch is incredibly important. Everyone in your team should be prioritizing healing this debuff, if you have members which are clearly slacking on it, consider using Flash Concentration to better help out the team.
  • Dropping portals far from each other will make it much easier to dodge the spirits chasing the raid. If you are selected by a portal along with a melee, you should use everything at your disposal to get as far from the raid as reasonable. You can then use that portal you placed to get back to the team quickly by teleporting to where the other player dropped their portal.

Holy Priest Tips

  • Desolate goes out at 0:20 seconds and 1 minute. It is then not cast until about 1:50 then is cast at 2:30.
  • Gluttonous Miasma is a constant on this fight and must be a constant focus to assist these players, standing near them to heal them.
  • Expunge is around a 30 second cooldown and will create larger circles depending on players health. Cooldowns before and during this ability will give players much more space to spread out around the room.
Holy Priest Top Builds for Lady Inerva Darkvein

Holy Priest Tips

  • This encounter is built off preparing for ramping ticking damage when anima containers are being controlled.
  • Watching the containers, preparing for when pressure is reduced or increased and how it affects ticking damage will be key
  • Unleashed Shadow damage from adds that Darkvein spawns can be particularly lethal. These happene about 1 minute in and every minute after that.
  • Stay spread, prepare for valve releases for increasing Loose Anima and be ready to reposition quickly. More updates on the way.
Holy Priest Top Builds for The Council of Blood

Holy Priest Tips

  • On Mythic: the Dancing Fever occurs about every minute and will feature fairly high sustained damage over 30 seconds. It is up to the team and players to decide how to best remove stacks.
  • Successful completion of the dance moves rewards you with increased haste. Don't slack!
  • This encounter is incredibly helter-skelter, watch your feet, and try to stay near the middle of the room so you can more easily get to your dance location without having to cross the entire field.
  • Oppressive Atmosphere will deal ever increasing ticking damage, the dance moves can interrupt their ramp so be ready to immediately start healing once the dance ends to best handle these high stacks.
Holy Priest Top Builds for Sludgefist

Holy Priest Tips

  • Every minute, starting around 1 minute, the boss will cast Destructive Impact dealing heavy raid wide damage.
  • After he breaks out of each stun, he will then immediately cast Colossal Roar and resume his normal mechanics.
  • Raid wide cooldowns for the impact should be flexible enough to allow players to consistently soak the debris from the pillars. Missing them will instantly cause a wipe.
Holy Priest Top Builds for Stone Legion Generals

Holy Priest Tips

  • Wicked Laceration are a constant for this encounter and are only removed via the Crystallize mechanic around every minute. Keep in mind when you are removing your bleed effect that you will be stunned for around 5 seconds. Preparing cooldowns around this fact, or delaying your stun/bleed removal will be vital for consistentcy with your raid cd assignments.
  • The Heart Hemorrhage debuffs will deal substantial damage but can be controlled for when they afflict the players. You can time these triggers so they coincide with Pulverizing Meteor and use multiple cooldowns together to best protect the team and get high value.
  • Pulverizing Meteor occurs around every minute start at ~20 seconds into the encounter. This will require everyone to soak in order to spread the damage most effectively.
  • Have lock gates set up to give players more breathing room in case they're getting knocked back.
Holy Priest Top Builds for Sire Denathrius

Holy Priest Tips

  • Blood Price should be the focus of raid cooldowns in Phase 1. This starts at 20 seconds into the fight and happens every minute thereafter.
  • Parts of the raid will stack in front of the boss for Cleansing Pain to reduce their stacks and spawn adds.
  • Crimson Chorus in Phase 2 is the heaviest damage that decreases by the time the more enemies die.
  • Hand of Destruction is very heavy damage in the final phase and should be cooldowned for in P3 but NOT in P2. In the final phase you can't run far enough away from this ability so the damage will be heavy. First hit was around 6:10 with our push timings (yours may vary), then 7:37 and a final one at 8:12 before the fight ended.

Holy Priest Raid Castle Nathria Strengths

  • Strong sustained healing throughput.
  • Provides significant bonus mana to the healing team through Symbol of Hope.
  • Two powerful raid cooldowns in Divine Hymn which also buffs healing done to targets affected by 10% and Holy Word: Salvation.
  • Flexible healing abilities, can assist in raid or spot healing at will.
  • Easy to learn and well-suited to fit into any raid team.

Holy Priest Raid Weaknesses

  • Little talent variety.
  • Mediocre mobility and defensives.
  • Up front base healing spells are weaker, leaning on the mastery and lengthy Holy Word cooldowns for burst.

Notable Castle Nathria Gear

In Shadowlands, all of the highest item level gear drops from Raids. Because of this, all of the gear is notable in that it has more stats than other gear.

Castle Nathria includes several pieces of gear with special effects that may influence your gearing or gameplay, as discussed below. Make sure to visit the Holy Priest Gear Guide for the full recommended gear list.

Castle Nathria doesn't have any direct weapon drops, but instead, players will loot tokens that can be traded for weapons in their Covenant Sanctums.

  • Cabalist's Hymnal This trinket is pretty solid overall, and gets better the more people who use it. It also has a naturally higher item level due to it dropping from Sire Denathrius.
  • Tuft of Smoldering Plumage This trinket isn't the highest HPS option for Priests, but the utility of being able to give a player a short duration cheat death is certainly noteworthy. It can save a life in some circumstances.
  • Manabound Mirror this trinket is a nice trinket just due to its item level. It provides a pretty short cooldown heal that is respectable. It's nothing super exciting, but its solid and beats out many other trinkets at this point of the expansion.
